Important
Uploading or requesting examination material that has not yet been sat results in immediate and permanent closure of your account, with no warning stage. Where the law or an examination authority requires it, your account records may be disclosed to them.
At a glance
A plain-language summary. The numbered clauses below are what legally applies.
- Past papers already sat by everyone: allowed, and the point of the Service.
- Anything from a paper not yet sat: prohibited, immediately and permanently.
- Asking for answers during a live examination is treated the same as supplying them.
- Selling answers or sitting an exam for someone else is prohibited and may be a criminal offence.
- Everything here is student-written. It is revision material, never an official source.
1. Why this policy exists
- 1.1
This Service exists so that a student can begin where another student finished, rather than from nothing. That purpose depends on the qualifications involved retaining their value.
- 1.2
A leaked paper does not advantage one candidate. It devalues the result of every candidate who revised honestly, including every other user of this Service.
Why this is here
This is the reason the sanction is disproportionate to the size of the file. The harm is to the meaning of the qualification, not to a single examination.
- 1.3
Examination bodies that lose confidence in a platform withdraw cooperation from it, and the students who lose access are the ones who were using it properly.
- 1.4
This policy is therefore enforced more strictly than any other on the Service, and with less discretion.
- 1.5
This policy forms part of the Terms of Use and is to be read with the Acceptable Use Policy and the Enforcement, Warnings and Legal Action Policy.
2. What is permitted
- 2.1
Past examination questions from a paper that has been sat by all candidates.
- 2.2
Your own answers to such questions, including worked solutions and model answers.
- 2.3
Analysis of past papers, including which topics recur and how marks are distributed.
- 2.4
Your own notes, summaries and revision material for any subject.
- 2.5
Discussion of a paper after every candidate has sat it.
- 2.6
Published syllabus documents, where the publishing body permits redistribution, with the source stated.
- 2.7
Questions about how to approach a topic, at any time, including during a revision period.
3. What is prohibited
- 3.1
Any question, paper, answer key or marking scheme from an examination that has not yet been sat by all candidates.
- 3.2
Any material described to you as leaked, advance, confidential or "coming in the exam", whether or not it proves to be genuine.
Why this is here
Authenticity is irrelevant to the breach. Circulating something presented as a leak causes the same damage to candidate confidence as circulating a real one.
- 3.3
Any material obtained from an invigilator, a printer, an examination office, or by unauthorised access to any system.
- 3.4
Any request for answers, hints or content while a paper is in progress.
- 3.5
Any offer to supply answers during an examination, whether or not payment is involved.
- 3.6
Any offer or request to sit an examination on another person's behalf.
- 3.7
Any offer or advertisement of assignment-writing, thesis-writing, project-writing or examination-answering services.
- 3.8
Any material that breaches a non-disclosure obligation you accepted as a condition of sitting an examination.
- 3.9
Any coordination of collusion in an assessed piece of work where the institution requires it to be individual.
4. Where the line falls
- 4.1
The test is whether all candidates have sat the paper. Until they have, nothing from it may be published here.
- 4.2
Where a paper is sat in multiple sittings, on different dates, or in different regions, it is not released until the last sitting has finished.
- 4.3
Where an examination body has stated that a paper remains confidential after the sitting, that statement governs and the material must not be published.
- 4.4
A question you remember from your own sitting may be posted after all candidates have sat, unless the body has said otherwise.
- 4.5
A prediction based on published past papers is permitted. A prediction presented as inside knowledge is not.
- 4.6
Material relating to continuous assessment, internal assessment or coursework is subject to the institution's own rules, which you must follow.
- 4.7
If you are unsure whether material falls on the permitted side, do not upload it and ask us first.
5. Consequences
- 5.1
Uploading unreleased examination material results in immediate and permanent closure of the account. There is no warning stage.
- 5.2
Requesting unreleased examination material results in immediate and permanent closure of the account.
- 5.3
Offering to sit an examination for another person, or to supply answers during one, results in immediate and permanent closure.
- 5.4
The material is removed immediately on identification, before any assessment of authenticity.
- 5.5
A person whose account is closed under this policy may not create a new account.
- 5.6
Closure under this policy may be appealed under the Grievance and Complaints Policy, but the account remains closed while the appeal is considered.
- 5.7
We may restrict a group, a subject area or an upload route entirely where it is being used to distribute such material.
6. Reporting to authorities
- 6.1
We may notify the relevant examination body where material appears to originate from a paper it administers.
- 6.2
We may notify an educational institution where conduct on the Service appears to breach its own academic regulations.
- 6.3
We may notify the police where conduct appears to constitute a criminal offence, including unauthorised access to systems and fraud.
- 6.4
Where we disclose, we disclose the material, the time of upload, the account identifier and the technical records necessary to establish provenance.
- 6.5
Disclosure is made in accordance with the Law Enforcement and Legal Requests Policy and the Privacy Policy.
- 6.6
We will ordinarily notify the account holder that a disclosure has been made, unless doing so is prohibited by law or would prejudice an investigation.
Why this is here
A commitment to notify is what makes disclosure accountable. The exceptions are narrow and are not applied for convenience.
- 6.7
We preserve records relating to a disclosure for as long as the matter remains live, and for at least five years thereafter.
7. The status of material on this Service
- 7.1
Everything here was written and uploaded by students. Nothing is produced, verified, endorsed or approved by any examination body.
- 7.2
Nothing here is an official past paper, an official marking scheme, or an official statement of any syllabus.
- 7.3
Material may be out of date. Syllabuses change, and a question worth ten marks in one year may not appear at all in the next.
- 7.4
Material may be wrong. It has not been checked by a teacher, an examiner or by us.
- 7.5
You must check anything you rely on against your own current official syllabus before an examination.
- 7.6
Using material from this Service does not guarantee any result, and no representation to the contrary is made anywhere on the Service.
- 7.7
This section is expanded in the Disclaimer and Limitation of Liability document.
8. For institutions and examination bodies
- 8.1
An examination body or institution may report material to legal@lacspace.com and we will act on it as a priority.
- 8.2
We do not require a court order before removing material an examination body identifies as unreleased.
- 8.3
We will confirm the action taken, the time of removal, and whether the account has been closed.
- 8.4
We will cooperate with an investigation into the source of leaked material, subject to the Law Enforcement and Legal Requests Policy.
- 8.5
We will, on request, block a subject area or an examination from the Service for a defined period around a sitting.
- 8.6
An institution wishing to establish a standing contact for these matters may arrange one with us.
- 8.7
We do not charge for any of this.
