At a glance
A plain-language summary. The numbered clauses below are what legally applies.
- Read anything, free, with or without an account.
- Download notes for your own study, and share links to them with anyone.
- Do not resell the material, repackage the platform, or scrape it in bulk.
- The platform software is ours. The notes are the students’.
1. The licence you are granted
- 1.1
You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable and revocable licence to access and use WeGrowNepal for personal study, teaching and research.
Why this is here
Non-transferable means the licence is yours rather than something you can pass on with an account. Non-sublicensable means you cannot grant it onward to somebody else. Revocable means we can end it, which in practice happens only where these terms are broken.
- 1.2
No account, payment or subscription is required to read any note published on the platform, in the app or on wegrownepal.com.
Why this is here
This is a commitment rather than a current state of affairs. Reading has always been free and is intended to stay that way.
- 1.3
You may download notes for your own use and share links to them with any person or group.
2. What the licence does not cover
- 2.1
You may not resell, sublicense, lease, rent, redistribute or otherwise commercially exploit the platform or material obtained from it.
Why this is here
Charging classmates for a printout of somebody else’s donated notes is the case this exists for.
- 2.2
You may not reproduce the platform, or a substantial part of it, as a competing or derivative service.
- 2.3
You may not extract content in bulk by automated means, including scraping, crawling beyond ordinary search-engine indexing, or systematic downloading.
Why this is here
Search engines are welcome and the site is built to be indexed. What this prohibits is copying the library wholesale.
- 2.4
You may not reverse-engineer, decompile, disassemble or attempt to reconstruct the source code of the applications or the API, nor remove any proprietary notice or watermark, except to the extent that such a restriction is unenforceable under applicable law.
3. Ownership of the platform
- 3.1
The source code, architecture, interface designs, brand assets, logos, APIs, database schema and product features of WeGrowNepal are the exclusive intellectual property of Lacspace Corporation Pvt. Ltd. The platform is licensed, not sold.
Why this is here
This is the standing position across the Lacspace ecosystem rather than something particular to WeGrowNepal.
- 3.2
WeGrowNepal is free to use and community-driven. Under no circumstances is Lacspace proprietary software provided under an MIT, GPL, Apache or any other open-source licence, and nothing in this document should be read as offering it under one.
Why this is here
We take a position on each question separately: open education, closed source. Saying so plainly is better than implying otherwise by omission.
4. Ending the licence
