An account the platform declares is not a person

Not everything here is written by a student. Some content is produced by us or by software, and until this release there was nothing separating that from a person’s own work: it appeared under a name, in the same list, with the same badge, and a reader had no way to tell.

Automated accounts are now declared as such, and the label travels wherever the name is shown — in the app, on the website, in the API responses that both read from. A person deciding whether to trust a set of notes should be able to see who wrote them, and "not a person" is one of the more important answers to that question.

They also stopped behaving like people. An upload from an automated account no longer fans out notifications to followers, because a notification saying somebody shared something is a claim about a person doing a thing, and sending it for a scheduled process is a small lie repeated at scale.

The same release separated what a person made from what the platform made about them, which is the distinction that had let our own generated content sit in a contributor’s totals as though they had written it.
