Does uploading help me in any way?

It builds a public profile with your name on real work, which is a genuinely useful thing to point an employer or an interviewer at. It earns achievements and a leaderboard position. And your notes are indexed by search engines under your name.

The honest answer, though, is that most people do it because somebody else's notes got them through a paper and they want to return the favour.
