Is my note approved before it appears?

No. There is no approval queue — your note is live and public the moment the upload finishes.

What happens afterwards is moderation by reporting: if ten separate people report something, it is hidden automatically and read by a person. That is a very different system from approval, and it means the responsibility for what you upload is genuinely yours.
