What do the star ratings on a note mean?

They are ratings from other students who read it, one to five stars, with an optional written review. The number beside the stars is how many people rated it.

A note with no rating is not a bad note — it is usually a new one. Ratings accumulate slowly and a subject with few readers will have few of them.
